DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT
One thing that has always amazed me about God – He let’s us decide.
When I think about my daughter, who is just a few months shy of her 3rd birthday, letting her make her own choice is often very difficult for me. There are some decisions I find easy to let her make (i.e. what to wear, what toy to play with). But I also find myself not letting her make other decisions (i.e. wearing her seatbelt, ice cream for breakfast, playing with knives). When I know what is best and she does not, I make the choice for her.
Joshua 24:15 says:
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.
God giving us freedom to choose is a remarkable thing. He knows what is best. He knows what happens if we don’t choose to follow Him. Yet, He lets us decide and then live with those decisions.
There is a very stark difference between God and me, and me and my 2 year old daughter. I won’t let her make a choice that will cause harm (at least not yet). God on the other hand will let us go down a path that may not be what is best for us. He will let us make a decision that will shape our eternity, good or bad.
Don’t lose sight of this important truth. God is in complete control of all things, but He is letting you make the decisions that will ultimately decide your fate. Yes, your choice does matter.

Sovereign God, thank you that no matter what poor decisions I have made, you tell me that you will forgive anything that I sincerely bring to you. So now I not only bring you what I’ve poorly chosen but also why….You tell me that you can use all things for good for those who love you, so I am trusting that no matter the consequences of what happens next you will walk with me. Help me to acknowledge you in ALL my ways so that my path is established by you, for you and always walked with you.
