Known as Madras until 1996, from the British empire days, this is a city of more than 7M
people, and one of the biggest cultural, economic, and educational centers of South India.
Our partner, Hindustan Bible Institute (HBI), already has a church on their campus there,
and is interested in reaching out to the young IT community with a new word-based,
contemporary, English-speaking church in the tech corridor.
Christ Church plans to come alongside them to help establish a worshiping community to
draw and disciple these Hindu and Muslim background young professionals. HBI’s goal is to
rent a building where they can begin with study groups, concerts, and children’s programs.
They hope, through other sources, to also develop funding for a co ffee bar and day care
center, which would attract people as well as provide a revenue source. HBI is laying the
groundwork now, with prayer walks and research of the target area.
