The Christ Church Vernon Hills launch team continues to grow. They are excited to love and serve their community!
My name is Mark Everding and I volunteer with Matthew Homes. You know, I pictured myself in front of the Lord someday and He’d say, “what did you do with all that stuff I gave you?”. David Weil helped me start volunteering with Matthew Homes gave me a channel that I didn’t have before. Without that I’d be stuttering in front of the Lord going “you know, I played a lot of golf.” I’m very grateful for the opportunity to work on the Matthew homes and feel like I’m helping even just a little…
On Sunday, September 8, the new Rev. 7:9 service at Highland Park officially launched with over 50 in attendance. Worshipers moved to engaging and energizing music, singing some in Spanish and some in English in a beautiful picture of biblical worship. Rev. 7:9 is an intentionally multi-cultural worship experience, particularly geared toward the 2nd generation Hispanic community in Highwood and Highland Park.
In August 2019, 33 people took the next step in their faith journey and were baptized.
My friend and I are walking around the park inviting people to come to the free Christ Church Vernon Hills BBQ. As I begin to invite a couple, the lady interrupts me to say she is a vegetarian and not interested. We kept walking and praying for the Lord to bring the right people. As we head back to the car we run into the couple again. She stopped us and said “Wait, are you guys part of a church?” I hesitantly responded with a “yes.” She then proceeds to tell us, “My husband…
You served on 20 different projects and completed 1,875 serving hours! “It was fun and I learned how to build beds. I made new friends and invited two families who were community volunteers to visit Christ Church. We exchanged phone numbers and they were excited to visit.” “I loved seeing some families looking over the lake at Foss Park after we finished landscaping. Each year, there is less trash on the ground. It seems like visitors care more for the park.”
In April of this year, I had the opportunity to return to Ghana. For this trip, the agenda was substantively didifferent than prior trips. The primary objective of the trip was to attend the dedication of the Evangelical Family Church’s new facility in Sogakope. Christ Church partnered with the community and International Needs (IN) to construct a wonderful new facility to replace a small temporary structure. On Saturday and Sunday, it was an overflowing congregation. The excitement and energy were comparable to the temperature – high! During the service, several people were recognized including…
“Why Vernon Hills?” is often a question I get when I tell people about the location of our fourth campus. People point out that Lake Forest is only 15 minutes away, so…“why won’t they just come here?” Recently, my wife and I were in Vernon Hills looking to rent a house. The house we were looking at was owned by a man who has lived in Vernon Hills all his life and is a neighbor to a member of Christ Church. This man doesn’t attend church, but has been invited by his neighbor to…
